POLICE said they had no reports of poison dog biscuits along Worcester canal after a concerned dog owner shared a warning on Facebook.

Versions of the Facebook post were shared hundreds of times on the social media site from concerned pet owners.

It claimed a a dog walker had discovered poison-laced biscuits along the canal near the former Cavalier pub and Worcester City Football Club stadium.

But the Worcester Safer Neighbourhood Team said it had received no reports from anyone about the biscuits.

They asked for whoever discovered the dog biscuits to get in touch with them as soon as possible by calling 101.

After they were contacted by the Worcester News, officers carried out a patrol along the stretch of canal this morning but could not find any sign of the treats.

Kate Davies, nurse at Lowesmoor House Veterinary Centre in Rainbow Hill, said they had not treated any dogs who had eaten the poison-laced dog biscuits.

“I did see the post on Facebook but no, we have had nothing like that.

“If a dog has eaten something untoward the advice will always be to contact the vets straight away and get them seen.”

Kelsie Cowell, a veterinary nurse at Worcester City Veterinary Centre in Lowesmoor Wharf, said they had also had no cases of dogs having eating the biscuits at the veterinary centre.

“I did see the post on Facebook but nobody has come in here to say their dog has eaten any of the biscuits.

“I have friends who work in Worcester at other vets and they’ve mentioned it but said they haven’t had any cases either.

“However, if someone thinks their dog has eaten something they shouldn’t we would recommend they come to see the vet straight away .

“On Facebook and Google you will come across lots of differing advice about things to give them to make them sick but this isn’t recommended, they should come to see us.”
