THE man who is addicted to sugar and eats 13 bowls of cereal a day has appeared on the Jeremy Kyle show with his girlfriend.

Philip Patrick made national headlines earlier this year after he pleaded for help to overcome his addiction to cereal covered in ten teaspoons of sugar.

The 19-year-old was taken on the infamous show by his girlfriend Sophie Richold for a segment titled "I'll leave my boyfriend if he doesn't stop eating cereal."

As the shocked audience recoiled at the sight of Mr Patrick pouring half a bag of sugar on his cornflakes, his partner told Kyle: "He needs to choose - it's me or the cereal."

While the show is not averse to controversy, Kyle could barely contain his laughter as he attempted to introduce the section.

Kyle, who is more used to serial cheats than cereal addicts, broke out in laughter and eventually resorted to lying on the ground.

He said: "Dear people of the United Kingdom.

"When I read out what I'm about to read out I don't want any of you to hold this against me.

"Next on this stage we have got a woman, I can't believe [...]" he trailed off before lying on the ground laughing.

He regained his composure eventually to introduce the pair to talk about how Mr Patrick's addiction to sugar had affected their lives.

Despite Kyle's and the audience's amusement, Mr Patrick said he knew the amount of sugar he eats could kill him and show therapist Graham Stanier said he was not trivialising the issue.

Kyle brought out a wheelbarrow filled with the amount of sugar Mr Patrick ate in a month and also listed the issues with eating too much sugar.

Stanier said Patrick was a compulsive eater and spoke about switching processed sugar for natural sugars in fruit.

The episode, which has been called the "oddest ever", was screened on Wednesday (April 20) but is available on ITV on demand itv.com/jeremykyle.
