THERE was frustration for Old Vigornians, whose Worcestershire League Division Three curtain-raiser against Cleobury Mortimer was called off.
The Worcester club had a walkover after Cleobury could not raise a side.
And OVs seconds suffered a seven-wicket defeat on the opening day of the season at Bromsgrove fourths in 2nd XI Division Three.
After losing their openers, Tony Meek (14) and Riz Ashraf (41) led a recovery which saw the Worcester side nicely poised at 83-2.
However, they collapsed to 125-7. George Painter batted well for 31 not out, and, with captain Phil Mackie (12), managed to reach 169-9 from 45 overs.
Painter and James Hayward-Meek did their best to exploit what remained of the early zip in the pitch but Bromsgrove’s openers, Hope and Matthew Anderson, saw off the new ball.
Ashraf picked up 3-43, and very nearly had Anderson out for 48, before the teenager eventually fell for 89. Bromsgrove completed their victory with nine overs left.
