NETWORK Rail is warning people who want to pay tribute to the man who died after being hit by the train at Norton, Worcester, to do so safely.
The Worcester News reported on the death of the man near the tracks at Norton yesterday morning.
British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were looking to identify the person, and inform the family.
BTP added the incident was not being treated as suspicious, and a file was being prepared by the coroner.
Network Rail has stressed the importance of staying off the railway at all times.
Julian Burnell, senior communications manager, said: “We understand that this is very distressing for those concerned, but it is vital that no one tries to access the track to lay tributes.
"It’s a highly dangerous environment, which is why it’s a criminal offence to trespass.
"Anyone wanting advice on the best location for tributes should contact the British Transport Police, and anyone affected by the event should contact the Samaritans.”
Anyone affected by issues such as depression can gain confidential advice and support by calling the Samaritans on 08457 909090 or visiting samaritans.org.
