WORCESTER residents are being encouraged to put on their running shoes to take part in an annual fundraising event being held in Crowle.

The charity 10k road race as well as family fun runs are this year taking place on Sunday, May 8.

An expected 100 clubs runners, from across the country, will join hundreds of casual runners in the event which starts from the village playing field.

The event has raised thousands for good causes over the years, and 2016 is expected to be no exception.

Ali McIndoe, one of the event's co-organisers, said: “Every penny we raise from business sponsorship or entries means more money to boost local charitable causes, and also improving sporting and social facilities for local parishioners.

"With the fantastic generosity of so many local, and also national, companies and business people we look set for another very successful fundraising effort.”

This year's sponsors, who have also donated prizes for runners, include Flogas, Halls estate agents, Boughton Fuel Oils and Select Physio and Exclusive Gym.

Fun runs will start at 10.30am on the day and are held over two distances – a quarter mile for young children and a more serious, timed, one-mile race for under 16s. Both are held on a circuit around the village playing field.

The 10K road race starts at 11.30pm.

Spectators are also welcome, and are being promised a festive atmosphere with a barbecue, stalls for cakes, hot and cold drinks and a children's bouncy castle.

Online entry for the 10k for affiliated runners is £11, and for unaffiliated runners costs £13. There is an extra £2 for on the day registration, which needs to be prepared by 9.30am.

The fun run costs £3 for a quarter mile, £4 for the mile.
