A CONVENIENCE store chain has confirmed it is set to open at a former pub in Ambleside.

The Midcounties Co-operative has announced that it will be moving into the former The Lakes pub on Ambleside Drive, Warndon.

However, a spokeswoman said they could not give any further information about when it is set to open or the number of jobs which will be created.

She said a further statement would be made in due course.

Until now, the name of the store set to open at the pub — which first opened when the estate was built in the 1960s — had been a mystery.

The Lakes was closed in August 2014 and was promptly boarded up.

Work has just resumed on the site after a planning application was approved in December 2014 for external alterations to be made to The Lakes before it is turned into a convenience store.

At the time, there were eight written objections to the convenience store plan, with residents saying there is no need for it, bemoaning extra traffic and suggesting it will harm nearby shops.
