ANIMAL protection campaigners raised £148 for the National Anti-Vivisection Society at a street collection in Malvern on Saturday.

Members of Worcester Vegans and Veggies (WVV) wore animal costumes and distributed leaflets as they collected for the society, which campaigns against animal experiments.

Ronald Lee of WVV said: "We would like to thank the people of Malvern for their generous support of NAVS, who do excellent work in fighting to end cruel experiments on animals, of which about four million a year take place in the UK.

"Dozens of shoppers also signed a petition to the government against animal experimentation.

"It goes to show that most members of the public are opposed to the ill-treatment of animals and are happy to help animal protection organisations.

"Helping NAVS is very much part of the ethos of our group, which campaigns for animal protection throughout the county, as well as promoting a humane lifestyle and diet free from animal products."
