YOUNGSTERS from Worcestershire on a day out in Birmingham with their families have the chance to get creative when they visit one of the city’s major attractions.

The National Sea Life Centre is offering them the opportunity of making their own sea creatures thanks to children’s TV arts and crafts presenter Phil Gallagher – otherwise known as CBeebies’ Mister Maker.

He has produced a series of exclusive instruction videos to help children make marine animals ranging from a paper plate stingray to a foil and tissue paper shark.

Sea Life’s Jamie Turner said: “They are all things that can be made with left over or waste household materials, so this is also helping youngsters take care of the environment.”

The six videos, filmed exclusively for visitors to the 11 UK and Ireland Sea Life Centres and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, will be featured from May 14 to June 12.

The Mister Maker shows have covered seven series so far and are among the highest rated shows on the CBeebies channel.

“Mister Maker is a naturally engaging character who just makes arts and crafts easy and fun for every child, whether they have a flair for art or not,” said Jamie.

“The way he introduces each project will also help our younger visitors learn more about the particular sea creatures they will be making, which we hope will encourage many to go on and learn more.”

Along with the ray and shark, children will also get the chance to make a handprint octopus, a cake-case jellyfish, a lid and pipe-cleaner crab and a colourful tropical fish.

The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham transports visitors to an amazing underwater world, where they get to see incredible sea life from all over the planet, from the coast of Britain and the chilly Antarctic, to the tropical waters of the Caribbean.

The aquarium is home to over 2,000 creatures, such as sharks, as well as a rescued Giant Green Sea Turtle, jellyfish, piranha, octopus and rays.

• Any youngster who visits the National Sea Life Centre and then makes a Lid Crab at home can enter it in a competition with a chance to win a Mister Maker prize. The winner will receive a signed Mister Maker Make & SEA LIFE Family Annual Pass and eight runners will get signed Mister Maker Makes.

• All they have to do is take a photo of their crab and upload it to social media with the hashtag #SeaLifeMiniMaker by 7pm on Sunday June 19 and the winner will be announced on Thursday June 30.
