THE life of Oliver Cromwell who led his forces to victory in the Battle of Worcester is the subject of a city talk about the famous general.
The talk about the Parliamentarian military leader and later Lord Protector has been organised by the Battle of Worcester Society and will take place at the Commandery in Sidbury, Worcester, on Thursday, June 2.
The talk, delivered by Dr Blair Worden, will focus on Cromwell himself who signed Charles I's death warrant.
He later emerged victorious in the Battle of Worcester in 1651, the last battle of the English Civil War.
After a period as a Fellow of St Edmunds Hall, Oxford Dr Worden took up a position as Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is among the leading authorities of the English Civil Wars especially the life of Oliver Cromwell. He has written many books on the period including, 'The English Civil Wars 1640-1660' which will be on sale on the night for £5 (RRP £8.99) and Dr Worden will be happy to sign a copy.
The talk will commence at 7pm in the Great Hall of the Commandery. Doors open at 6pm. The cost is £5 for Battle of Worcester Society members, £3 for students, £7 to others.
Tickets can be obtained at the Commandery or on the door on the night. All are welcome.
