A SERIES of classical concerts for young children has successfully launched at a Worcester church.

The first Tiny Tunes classical concerts, for babies and toddlers, took place at St Martin's Church on May 23.

The new initiative is designed to get babies and toddlers dancing and relaxing to classical sounds.

The first event proved popular as around 45 adults, and their little ones attended, listened to an animal-themed programme of music performed by cellist Corinne Frost, and pianist Janine Parsons.

The well known works played included Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens, and Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky Korsakov.

There was also some cuddly animals, as well as small instruments for the toddlers to have a go at playing themselves.

Shirley Scott, concert administrator at the church, said: "The idea of Tiny Tunes is to provide a relaxed, baby-friendly environment for parents and carers with babies and very young children, where they can all enjoy a varied selection of lovely and lively music.

"The atmosphere was buzzing at our launch."

Concerts are to be held on the fourth Monday of every month.

The next event, being held on June 27, is a concert of classical piano solos, and songs from stage and screen, featuring singer Hattie Amos.

The programme includes piano favourites such as Mozart’s popular Sonata, and children’s popular songs from Frozen and the Little Mermaid.

On July 25, Andy Watts will be attending, bringing his recorders and other renaissance instruments to perform popular ballads, while on August 22 the Lilliput Duo bring their special programme of violin and viola duets to the church - this concert being part of the Worcester Festival.
