WORCESTER’S Old Vigornians maintained their undefeated start to the Worcestershire Cricket League Division Three season with a solid four-wicket victory over Ross-on-Wye.

After winning the toss and putting Ross in to bat, veteran off-spinner Ian Robinson picked up his best figures for the club of 4-40.

Alongside George Painter (2-22), he tore through the top order.

But, from 30-5 and 88-7, Harry King (60) steered the hosts to a respectable 159 all out.

Fresh from winning the Audi Invitational at The Warwickshire Golf Club, Steve Protherough returned to pick up three wickets.

Captain Osman Fiaz (44) and Rob Lanchbury-Thomas (41) got OVs off to a good start with 78 for the first wicket.

But, after Chris Drew fell for 19, the city side stuttered to 130-6 with Jack Donovan picking up 3-23.

However, Azmat Riaz and Painter saw them home with 11 overs to spare.

OVs seconds secured their first victory of the season in Division Three and climbed to sixth after beating Kidderminster fourths by four wickets at New Road.

The town reached 86 without loss in the 15th over before Dave Cole removed the dangerous Matt Davies (27).

Leon Burke (45) fell soon after but Kidderminster still held the upper hand at 126-3.

Tim Race turned the game as his spell of 5-16 led to a collapse that saw the visitors dismissed for 148.

Fifteen-year-old Max Richardson finished with 2-28 on his league debut, while another teenager Charlie Emmerson took two fine catches.

After losing Tasweer Shah in the first over, Aidan Thompson (33) led OVs’ recovery but Tony Meek again proved the mainstay of the batting.

He carried his bat for 64 not out when they made it home with nine overs left.
