HOPES of Worcester City FC getting a stadium at Perdiswell have a fresh glimmer of impetus - after a new council report was published insisting the option is still on the table.

Worcester City Council's new Labour leadership will hold its first cabinet meeting next week, with the exiled club's future due to be discussed.

A report has been published reiterating where the administration stands on the drawn-out saga.

As the Worcester News revealed last month the council's two Green Party politicians are pushing for Perdiswell to be dumped, and want a viable alternative to be found elsewhere.

A new working group has been set up to consider other sites, with the city's new Labour leader Councillor Adrian Gregson keen to still keep Perdiswell on the table.

The report, which is being discussed on Tuesday, reminds the cabinet that the council "in its role as landowner" of Perdiswell Park will need to make the final decision if the planning application is voted through by the independent planning committee.

It also insists that any comments from the leadership before then would be "inappropriate".

It comes as Worcester City FC's Supporters' Trust revealed it had written to the leaders of the city's three main political parties in a bid to try and keep its Perdiswell hopes alive.

The report states: "The council, as the local planning authority is currently in receipt of a planning application for a new ground on the council's land at Perdiswell.

"It would be inappropriate for the cabinet to comment on the merits of this application at this stage.

"Until such time as a formal planning decision has been made, it is not appropriate for

cabinet to make any decision regarding the usage of this site.

"Should planning permission be granted, then the council in its role as landowner will need to make a decision based on the detailed proposals.

"This will include details of the development, the business case that supports the construction and ongoing operation of the proposed ground, and any ancillary facilities."

The trust has sent letters to Councillor Gregson, Tory group leader Councillor Marc Bayliss and Green Councillor Neil Laurenson about it.

Rob Crean, trust secretary, said: "Perdiswell is still our preferred option, it's the one we've been working towards for a long time.

"I did write to all three parties to say I hope we can continue to work together to look at the other sites as long as Perdiswell is still on the table, because we don't want it off the table, and all three responded to say that's fine."

The trust is currently working with Birmingham-based JMP Consultants over the finer details of its Perdiswell planning application.

Worcester Green Party, which holds 'kingmaker' status at the Guildhall, has said it "does not favour the football ground being sited at Perdiswell" and wants the Labour leadership, a minority administration, to agree to fund the costs of a fresh planning application at a different site.

The application for a new 4,100-capacity ground on Perdiswell Park, submitted in April 2014, has been bogged in difficulties and has attracted around 1,400 public comments, with more than 1,000 of them in support.

The club has been exiled at Kidderminster Harriers' Aggborough since 2013 after leaving St George's Lane.
