A CELEBRATORY service to mark the Queen's 90th birthday was held at Pershore Abbey.

The patriotic congregation waved flags, sang the National Anthem and enjoyed a parade of cakes in honour of the Queen at the Civic Service on Sunday.

The Rev Lording, priest in charge at the abbey, said: "Her Majesty sets an amazing example. She combines her very real faith with her life of responsibilities – it seems so apt for a civic service in the Abbey."

Distinguished guests, including Deputy Lord Lieutenant Angela Brinton, the mayor and mayoress of Pershore Bob Gillmor and Sandra Young, and Harriet Baldwin MP, attended service.

The Abbey bell ringers also rang out a quarter peal to celebrate.
