GREAT British bake off winner Nadiya Hussain was in Droitwich today to open the Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival.

She opened the two-day event in Vines Park before signing copies of her book, chatting to visitors and giving a cookery master class.

She said: "Before bake off I was on the other side of the festival walking around.

"Now, I'm usually found preparing a cake. It's changed a lot.

"But the fact people stop to have a book signed. I find that a massive compliment.

"It's always nice to chat to people.

Nadiya said it was her first visit to the town but she may return - to visit the Chateau Impney hotel.

She said: "I saw it on my way in.

"I think I'll definitely be coming back there."

The winner of last year's bake off has since carved out a career for herself as a media personality, writing a column, appearing on Loose Women and the One Show and is set to present a travel cookery show.

She was also asked to bake the Queen's 90th birthday cake earlier this year.

She said: "Life has changed so much since bake-off.

"I'm enjoying all of the parts of the change but the Queen's cake has to be the best.

"I wasn't nervous. You would think I would be. It was fun."

This weekend is the fourth year of the Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival, which brings together local producers of food and drink in stalls throughout the town.

Organiser Patrick Davis said: "We started off with 60 stalls and we've now got 200 over the two days.

"It's one of the biggest food festivals in the Midlands.

"Droitwich is the perfect location.

"There's some wonderful producers in this area and the accessibility is fantastic.

"It's a lovely town as well so we are absolutely the right location for a food festival.

"90 per cent of the stallholders are local, from within a 30 mile radius."

Jenny Nicholson, who visited from Shrawley, said: "I heard about it and we thought we would come for a day out.

"It has some very nice stalls."

Jean Latham, from Holt Heath, said: "It's very nice to visit. I like to come to local events.

"The pies look fantastic."
