CARE home staff cooked up a way to give residents some much deserved trips out – by baking a range of delicious cupcakes.

Malvern’s answer to the Great British Bake Off took place at Welland House Care Centre, which assists many of its residents in living with Alzheimer’s.

While violinist Sarah Amery entertained residents of the Lime Grove home, staff mixed things up in more ways than one by adding a competitive flavour.

The event was part of Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day to raise money for people affected by dementia.

Care home manager Jeanette Bedford said: “We decided to up the stakes by trying to see who could come up with the craziest flavour of icing. It was great to have so many of our staff involved in such an important cause.

“The cakes were so good I think one or two might fancy themselves the next Mary Berry.

“Many of our residents have Alzheimer’s and this funding will go towards special trips out.

"As well as having a fantastic time, it was also a good excuse to eat lots of cake.
