YOUNG singers at a Worcester school have been busy rehearsing ahead of a special performance at Croome Court.

Pupils at St Clements Primary School, in Henwick Road, will take to the stage at Riversfest in July alongside adult choirs including the 40-piece ensemble Vocal High.

They have been working with composer Chris Long on his song 'Mr Capability', specially commissioned by the National Trust to celebrate the 18th Century garden designer Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.

Mr Long said: "The focus is on how Brown's example of perseverance and effort in his work can serve as an inspiration to us all, especially to the next generation.

"The children have responded brilliantly and I can't wait to hear the song performed."

Riversfest, a one-day festival of song, will be held on Friday, July 1, from 2pm to 8pm.

It is organised by Paula Evans, musical director of the Rivers Academy of Schools in Worcester, who led the Academy to success in the Under 10's category of the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival in March.

Ms Evans said: "As well as experiencing the thrill of their own live performance, the children will have a wonderful opportunity to share a stage with adult singers too.

"There will be over a thousand voices singing on July 1."
