WORCESTER'S George Marshall Medical Museum is to hold its annual evening of talks at the Charles Hastings Education Centre on Thursday, July 7.

After the success of previous talks about the Black Death and human anatomy, this year’s event will be based on the theme of mental health through the ages with a focus on the patients and their treatment in the county.

Louise Price, the museum’s curator, said: “We are excited to host another evening of talks and to provide an opportunity to visit the museum during the evening. Dr. Frank Crompton will kick off the talks with a focus on patients at Powick Hospital from 1852 to 1916.” The museum displays surgeon George Marshall’s collection of objects illustrating the way that medicine and health care have developed over the past 250 years. Visitors to the Museum will see death masks of hanged criminals and the reconstructed apothecary shop and operating theatre.

The event will begin promptly at 7.30pm, with refreshments served from 7pm in the restaurant. Admission is £3.50, and the museum will be open during the evening with a rare opportunity to see a special exhibition of photographs from Powick Hospital taken just before it closed. There is free parking for visitors in the education centre’s car park. To reserve a place or for more information please call 01905 760738 or e-mail RSVPlecture@gmail.com.
