ABBEY Park First School and Nursery in Pershore have been celebrating the positive role men can have in children's lives.

Nearly one hundred dads, grandads, step-dads, brothers, uncles and male friends joined children in every class enjoying a range of activities.

This included a sporting treat as each class were given rugby training fun with international Tongan and ex-Worcester Warriors player, Aleki Luiti who generously gave up his time to join the fun.

Children and their visitors made and flew paper planes, played games, read together, built models and attempted engineering feats with spaghetti and marshmallows.

Lydia Parker, a teacher at the school, organised the event and said that staff there recognised the importance of positive male role models in children's lives and wanted to acknowledge that.

She said: "The feedback from the men who could join us has been so positive and it was a real pleasure to have them in school.

"We're glad that they found the time and appreciated how their involvement has such positive impact on children's education."

The school will also arrange a similar event to celebrate how women affect children's education.
