Sturgeon is selfish leader

SIR – In her desperation to separate Scotland from the UK, Nicola Sturgeon is trying to create a situation whereby the Scots and the rest of us even after hundreds of years can no longer live side by side.

Her campaign is but one of self promotion as the saviour who has re-written the history books, having previously failed as aide to the fallen Alex Salmond, who when defeated ran away, abandoning the Scots akin to David Cameron’s actions.

Her wish is to commit millions of Scots permanently to the European fiasco, and perhaps when the calls now from other Europeans for their referendums are answered there just might be a lonely non-funded existence to sink into.

We English have suffered years of Scottish MPs (the Westminster Kilts) who are allowed to vote on our issues, yet other MPs are not allowed a vote on their issues.

So perhaps the re-writing of the Barnett Formula well may also seriously affect the welfare of Scotland.

The wonderful people of Scotland do not need a selfish nationalist crusader, they need a leader with only the interests of the people first.

Immigrant jobs safe?

SIR – There are many people who voted for out of the EU that are expecting that our eastern European residents and workers will shortly start packing their bags to go home. There seems to be some confusion going on as Boris made a statement the day before the referendum that the people here should have nothing to worry about and they would remain here to live and work. A permit system would only come in once we have officially left in two years time for anyone wishing to work in the UK, and until then nothing changes.

Could you get our MPs to confirm this before people end up even more confused?

Fighting spirit lost at sea?

SIR – What is the matter with the British lately?

I ask this because last year, Ed Miliband lost a general election and promptly resigned; last week David Cameron lost a referendum and promptly resigned; Roy Hodgson’s team lost a football match – he also promptly resigned.

Has no-one in this country got any fighting spirit left in them?

Perhaps that is why we are becoming a laughing stock in the world!

Chris Martin Abberley Young turned on by elderly SIR – Never has there been a starker betrayal of one generation by another than in the referendum decision to leave the EU. “Our past is more important than your future” is effectively what the older generation has said to the young.

Analysis of the vote showed 60 per cent voting out among the over-65s, compared with 73 per cent voting in among the under-30s.

Now before my comments generate apoplexy, I know many many older people who voted to stay in as well as some younger people voting out. I’m sure each person’s decision was sincerely made, though I wept at the gross distortions being presented by some parts of the media.

The skilful manipulation of misinformation by the out campaign was a disgrace, often pandering to our worst instincts. Those politicians who did it should hang their heads in shame.

No, get back in classroom

SIR – Your report about our elected MEP Peter Jewell telling Nicola Sturgeon to get back in her box was very funny. He calculated that the percentage of Scottish votes in UK was only 0.025 per cent. That was based on his figures of 1.6 million Scots out of 65 million British. But there are five million people in Scotland!

So his answer should have been 5/65x100= 7.7 per cent.

OK, maybe he meant people who voted. In that case it was 2.3 million Scots out of 23 million Britons. So, that’s 10 per cent.

We read that the Scots voters were better educated than the rest of us. Maybe Mr Jewell should do a maths refresher course in Scotland, while it’s still in UK?

But maybe it was just a typo by Worcester News?

Politicians like school kids

SIR – I thought the EU referendum debates were pretty shambolic by both sides.

The aftermath is sadly no better with the Leave campaign in an apparent state of flux with regard to decisions. We also have the European Union ministers acting like shunned children in a school playground. Is the EU nothing more than a dictatorship that does not accept a democratic decision? I shudder to accept that all these elected idiots are supposedly our guardians.
