IN-FORM vice-captain Liam Booth is hoping Old Elizabethans can continue their charge up the table tomorrow against visiting Halesowen in Birmingham League Division Two (noon).

The seam bowler, fresh from a hat-trick in his match-winning 6-23 against Stourbridge last weekend, will be handing over the captaincy to Jamie Boyle, who is back from his trip to Glastonbury.

The returning Boyle will be among three changes in the OEs side with Huw Selvey replacing the unavailable Hemaka Pathiranage and Steve Walsh coming in to keep wicket.

Booth, 26, has described fast bowler Selvey as “box office” and believes the paceman could be a lethal weapon against Halesowen.

However, Booth admits it will be a tough test against a Halesowen side who can count Herefordshire all-rounder Will Barrett and Wiltshire opening batsman Edward Kilbee in their ranks.

“Selvey has taken 11 wickets in his last two games for our second team,” said Booth.

“He’s a quick bowler and on his day, is one of the fastest bowlers in the league.

“He’s a real box-office cricketer. He comes in off a long run and slings it down at a decent pace.”

The Worcester club have won their last three matches and are now fourth in the table just one place above Halesowen.

Booth said: “We are pleased to welcome back Jamie Boyle, who will captain the side and strengthen our batting at number three.

“Although we won last weekend in a low-scoring match, we missed Jamie’s batting and I am quite happy to hand over the captaincy because I prefer to concentrate on my own game.”

It’s the first time this season OEs will have come up against Halesowen.

“I am sure they will fancy their chances of beating us and trying to reduce the deficit between us in the league table,” said Booth.

Despite losing the toss for their past three matches, OEs have picked up three 24-point hauls after being inserted and then bowling out the opposition.

“We are on a great run and hopefully we can continue the form which has seen us rocket up the table,” said Booth.
