POLICE were called to Diglis Lock over concerns for a man's safety this evening (Friday)
Officers were called to Diglis Dock Road at 6.20pm by the lock keeper who had concerns about a male.
Inspector Andrew Smith said: "The man was making threats to harm himself and was armed with a small knife.
"A number of police officers attended including a police negotiator.
"After a short time, the man surrendered the knife and he was detained under the Mental Health Act."
The riverside pathway was closed off to pedestrians between 6.20pm and just before 7pm.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was also called to the scene.

Cllr Riaz later told the Worcester News there was "a fair presence" of police vehicles at the scene.
He said: "I do not know what has happened. It looks quite serious. There is a number of police vehicles there and a couple of ambulances."
