THE Worcestershire’s Andrew Longley won the inaugural Garnet Scott Memorial Salver.

The new handicap event in honour of the much-respected former club secretary and captain saw visitors find the conditions particularly challenging.

Another home player Lee Whittall was runner-up, losing out on count-back with both on nett 72.

Phil Birch was third on 73, Andy McCabe fourth on 74 and Phil Shurmer fifth on 76.

For the ladies, Cathy Harris took the Silver Scratch Cup with gross 84 and Joan Haworth the Bronze Scratch Cup with 105.

Diane Meakin was runner-up in the Silver with 85 and Ruth Scott second in the Bronze with 107.

An 18-hole stableford was won by Evelyn Hill with 29 points. Di Wilde was two back with Jan Bartlett and Sandra Schofield both on 26.

Ann Moody won the nine-hole stableford with 15, one ahead of Pauline Taylor with Norma Pottinger third on 13.

Twenty-year-old Bill Thomas carded nett 66 to lead a large field by two strokes in the summer meeting medal.

In taking Division One, Thomas (11 handicap) was three ahead of Phil Dance (4) and Martin Lloyd (9) on 69 with Gary Lynes (11) and Phil Birch (6) on 70.

Division Three’s David Anderson (21) and Phil Bayliss (19) each returned 68 ahead of Chris Minett (18) and Will Brimmell (23) on 70. Gary Eames (13) led Division Two on 71 ahead of Chris Massey (17) on 74 with Peter McNeil (13) and Phil Hirons (14) on 75.

The Worcestershire’s seniors drew 4-4 at home to Ross-on-Wye.

Paul Butler and John Wright won 8&7, Nigel Teale and Tony Pawson 2&1 and Peter Kirton and Dave Anderson 6&5.

John Williams and Jim Wilde halved as did Euan McClelland and Andy Peet.

Captain Les Facer and Dave Wood and Terry Cox and Keith Hitchcock lost.

An Aston Wood trio from Sutton Coldfield led the ladies’ open three-ball alliance.

C Conwell, M Onyett and A McQuick recorded 73 stableford points, one ahead of home player Liz Evans, Cath Francis and Pat Watkins.

Third on 65 were Lisa Digings, Pat Johnson and Mary Smith.
