Our report about the traffic chaos on roads surrounding the new Waitrose has caused a mixed response among readers.

Many have expressed anger about the situation, but others have said people are overreacting.

Jayne Simpkin, a resident of Spetchley Road, said a manager at the customer service desk told her staff would not be able to use the car park on Fridays or Saturdays, even after the two week ban.

"The council seriously need to look at the risk that the increase in traffic around the area poses to pedestrians and cyclists," she said.

"Does it take an accident before the council do something to address this?"

Kathleen Joan English said: "What a ridiculous idea. Waitrose don't want staff to park on the car park! Of course this is going to cause chaos in nearby roads, they need to park somewhere!"

Graham Chetwynd added: "Don't forget the congestion is also impacting on Hereford and Worcester ambulance service trying to access or exit their station in Spetchley Road."

Other comments said Waitrose needed to stop prevaricating and act quickly to restore their image locally.

Some comments also raised concerns about the impact that future developments such as the Aldi in St John's and the project at the DEFRA site in Whittington Road, could have on traffic.

However many comments said the disturbance was temporary and normal levels of traffic would soon return.

Paul Hart said: "I went last night, no traffic and plenty of spare parking spaces. Sure it was closed as it was 3am but even so, I don't see what the problem is."

"It will calm down once the initial fascination has worn off. Try living at Blackpole with two supermarkets and two retail parks!," one said.

Another called the response 'a storm in a tea cup' and said the parking policy was a short term plan to deal with the initial wave of shoppers.

One comment said: "The novelty of quails' eggs and silk teabags will soon wear off, and everything will return to normal."
