RUNNERS turned out in force for this year's Timberhonger 10km road race which broke all records.

The race, which forms part of Bromsgrove Carnival, was able to increase its capacity, meaning an impressive 600 runners took part.

Such is the popularity of the race, that entries sold out a staggering six weeks before the event.

Consequently a huge crowd turned out to support the runners as they competed over a testing hilly course before finishing in Sanders Park.

Rapid Adam Peacock from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC was first runner home clocking a fast time of 33 minutes and 37 seconds to lift the prestigious Berewick of Timberhonger Trophy.

Leonie Balter of the BRAT club proved the quickest lady runner coming home in an impressive 38 minutes and six seconds.

Race organisers split this year's Children's Challenge fun run into two separate races to give the under-eights the chance to run their own lap of the park before the older children competed.

Cheered on by both parents and the carnival crowd alike, more than 200 youngsters, some as young as two years old, took part and raced through the finishing line to collect their well earned carnival medals.

Finton Hutt proved the fastest boy, while Megan Parker was first back for the girls, and Nathan Sanders won the eight to 10 age group and was fourth overall while Hannah Dale took the girls' prize.

Owen Bourne and Quisha Cashmore were the first boy and girl in the under-eights.

Race director Mark Graham claimed: "It was fantastic to see so many runners this year and the fact we were part of Bromsgrove Carnival just adds to a special atmosphere."

It's hoped the races will help raise over £5,000 for the Friends of the Princess of Wales Hospital, Primrose Hospice and the Basement Project.
