A RACING driver is said to be in a "stable condition" after being involved in a crash at the Chateau Impney Hill Climb.
Edmund Burgess, 59, from Lavenham, in Suffolk, was trapped underneath his Bugatti Type 51 after it overturned during practice for the hill climb during the event at the weekend and had to be freed by marshals and rescue crews.
Although he walked away from the crash, he was taken to hospital, where further examination revealed a number of injuries and saw him admitted to intensive care.
He was released from intensive care on Monday morning, and organisers of the Hill Climb issued a statement saying: "His condition has been described as stable. His family have asked that its privacy be respected at this distressing time.
"The organisers of the Chateau Impney Hill Climb would like to take this opportunity to send its best wishes to Edmund and his family."
