NO arrests have been made yet after a man attacked a four-year-old with a fake poo outside a pub in Worcester.

Police are continuing their hunt for the man who rubbed the plastic toy in the faces of the girl and her grandmother as they walked past The Royal Exchange, Cornmarket on Saturday afternoon.

They are treating it as racially-motivated but said there had been "no significant updates" into their investigation.

Inspector Gerard Smith of the Worcester Safer Neighbourhood Team said their behaviour was not tolerated in Worcester or elsewhere in West Mercia.

The attack on the Asian family is thought to have been filmed by one of the gang while others in the group cheered - to the disgust of pub regulars and passers-by.

Pub landlord Terry Clarke immediately kicked the gang of 20 out of his pub while branding their actions "disgusting".

There has been an outpouring of support for the family - with one organisation, Saint Teddys, offering to send the little girl a teddy bear.

Worcester News readers also reported seeing the gang at other bars and pubs in the city during Saturday.

The girl's uncle Tayyib Nawaz thanked everyone who had come forward to offer help and for the messages of support his family had received.

He said: "I pray that those who were responsible are found and are made an example of as my niece should not have to feel victimised, neither should my mother or my sister or anyone else for that matter."

Previously, he had told how his mother, sister, 18-month-old nephew in a pushchair and niece believe they were targetted because they were dressed in headscarves and wearing Asian clothing.

"Nothing was verbally said but my sister felt they were targeted because of what they were wearing.

"From anyone that could have been targeted at that moment on that street, they picked on my family.

"And then clearly when my family didn't like it they picked it up off the floor and then began trying to rub it onto my niece and my mum.

"At this point my sister was shouting at them to grow up and they did not feel any remorse or guilt."

Insp Smith said they were actively investigating and appealed for witnesses to call police on 101 quoting reference number 547 S 160716.
