A PUB on the outskirts of the city centre has closed six months after it was taken over.

The Paul Pry, The Butts, shut for good on Saturday with the current owners citing the reason for the closure on the "recent economic climate".

The 200-year-old pub is Grade II Listed because it is "a very good example of a purpose-built late Victorian public

house, retaining many original features."

However, in recent years it has changed hands a number of times and has gone through extended periods of closure.

Under its most recent owners, it was billed as a real ale pub which played host to live music and monthly comedy nights.

A post on the pub's facebook page said: "Ladies and gents it is with regret that I have to let you know, that The Paul Pry is closing on Saturday due to the recent economic climate.

"It's been a fantastic 6 months which I have thoroughly enjoyed, we've had some great beer, great music and great customers which I shall always cherish.

"So thank you very much!

"Your support has been much appreciated! I will see you for the last drink on Saturday! Regards, Sam and the Team."
