A DAZZLING array of sights, sounds and smells filled the 52nd Welland Steam and Country Rally.

Around 38,000 steam and vintage vehicle enthusiasts flocked to the event, near Malvern, on Saturday to enjoy a vibrant display of exhibits and entertainment.

The event was formally opened by MP for West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin on Friday, and will continue until 5pm tomorrow (Sunday).

Allen Prout, chairman of the rally, said this this year's event has enjoyed "record crowds" and boasts the "most exhibits" it has had.

He said: "It has been very good, record crowds here today - 38,000 - more than last year.

"I think it is a nice family event, they come along and have a ride on the steam engines and just have a really good time.

"It is just a good family day out, and there is always so much to see."

More than 2,000 exhibits, 2,000 trade stalls, a farmers market, craft tent, model show and much more filled the event space, in the shadow of the Malvern Hills.

Spectators watched impressive displays of mighty traction engines, and perused the huge collection of vintage cars and bicycles also on show.

Younger visitors had fun at the steam powered fairground and there was entertainment throughout the weekend on the Grand Electric Palace of Variety stage.

On Friday night guests enjoyed an Elvis tribute act, while on Saturday evening there was music from Rob Stevens with the Scarborough Fair Collection.

Harriett Baldwin MP said: "I have been impressed by the growing range of exhibits offering so much more for visitors from all over the world.

"The gathering has been a mecca for steam enthusiasts but growing attractions like the antique motorbikes and scooters show that there is ever-increasing interest for the show.

"I hope that the weather stays fine and we get to welcome visitors from all over the world to this wonderful Worcestershire attraction."
