CROWDS are set to descend on Gheluvelt Park for the 2016 Worcester Show being held this Sunday, August 14.

The popular show, in its 11th year and being organised by Worcester City Council, features the usual mix of competitions, attractions and other entertainment.

The show, open between 10am and 5pm, features more than 130 competitions in various classes including floral decorations, crafts, photography, cookery, clay and recycling.

New classes are also being introduced this year, designed specifically for children and teenagers.

In the show's animal zone there will be the chance for youngsters to enjoy pony rides, as well as see animals brought along by Hereford Owl Rescue and the RSPB.

The kids's zone will entertain youngsters with a bouncy castle, fairground rides and crazy golf.

Show organisers are giving visitors the chance to take a ride on the Smiley train which will be making one way journeys from Worcester Racecourse's Grandstand, following the River Severn to the show, then finishing at the north end of Pitchcroft near the old boat station.

The fare for a journey costs £1, with three trains running throughout the day.

Music at the show will be provided by bands Secret Cabaret and Come Up and See Me, as well as show regulars Got 2 Sing and Bellyssimmo.

A new addition for this year is a Topical Talks tent, which will be providing a diverse series of informative and entertaining lectures.

The sports zone features coaching sessions from Worcester Warriors and Worcester Wolves, as well as demonstrations from Worcester Taekwondo Club.

The event is free and family friendly, with a baby changing and feeding tent organised by the Worcester and Droitwich branch of the National Childbirth Trust, (NCT).

NCT representatives will also be talking about the charity's work, providing a chance for potential new volunteers to sign up.
