MANAGER Carl Heeley says he will keep one eye on the transfer market but insists he is happy with Worcester City’s squad.

The Blue and Whites have yet to record a victory in Vanarama National League North after two draws and three defeats.

With no game in midweek for the first time this season, Heeley has not ruled out adding to his squad before Chorley visit the Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm).

But, having brought in a number of new faces in the summer, the City boss says he is keen to work with the players he has got at his disposal.

“I don’t think you ever stop looking (for new players) as a manager,” he said.

“You are always looking at what’s available and you are always out watching games of football.

“So if a player is available who can strengthen us, then we will look at taking them.

“But at the moment I think it is a good squad and when you are making individual errors it paints a false picture.”

Worcester were forced to bide their time while summer signings Sam Oji, Steven Craig and Nathan Olukanmi got international clearance.

All three have now featured for City and Heeley says he is excited by the prospect of winger Olukanmi, who came off the bench to make his league debut in their 1-1 draw against FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

“Nathan is rapid,” he said.

“He is one of the quickest players I have ever seen but he is stepping up a few levels and it is going to take him time to adjust as he would not have experienced an atmosphere like FC United.

“But he will get better and his pace is going to be a huge threat for us.”

Heeley was also pleased with the performances of striker Colby Bishop, who joined City after being released by League Two side Notts County in May.

The 19-year-old has scored in Worcester’s last two games but Heeley believes his team can utilise his aerial strengths better.

“Colby is a big lad and he works hard,” Heeley said.

“You can see aerially he gets up well and wins a lot of flicks.

“But what we have still got to work on is that anticipation of where the ball is going to drop and trying to get players round him a little better.”

Meanwhile, tough-tackling Richard Batchelor, who missed the FC United clash with a tight thigh, is expected to return for this weekend’s double-header, which also includes a trip to Stockport County on Monday (3pm).

But Heeley says midfielder Connor Gater (toe) and centre-back Kieran Morris (hand) are still on the road to recovery.

“Connor is rehabing,” Heeley added.

“He has been out for a number of weeks now and has not played any football, so it is going to take him time before he can get up to match fitness.

“But the good news is there is no real damage (to his toe). We all know it is going to be another couple of weeks before we see Kieran.”
