COUNCILLORS are teaming up with police officers to protect a Stourport beauty spot and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

Worcestershire County Council's countryside team has joined with West Mercia Police to urge motorbike riders to help protect the nature sanctuary and stay away from the Leapgate Old Railway Line, in Stourport.

Leapgate Old Railway Line is owned and managed by the county council and provides a sanctuary for many flowers, mammals and insects, as well as offering a safe route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Members of the local community have reported to police the misuse of the site by motorbike riders who have been reported to be speeding up and down the main route causing distress to neighbours and users.

Stourport county councillor John Thomas, said: "This lovely walk is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

"The motorbike riders are both putting themselves and this lovely spot at risk."

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: "Worcestershire County Council will be working with the local police team to address this issue and we ask that the public report motorbikes using the site to the local police using the non-emergency number 101."

PC Mark Edwards of Stourport Police, added: "Stourport Safer Neighbourhood Team and West Mercia Police as a whole are committed to supporting our community in combating anti-social behaviour.

"We would like to remind those riding motorbikes that the use of motorbikes is not permitted on the site.

"By using motorbikes at this location you are putting yourself and others in danger.

"The noise created by the bikes is upsetting local people and is considered anti-social behaviour."
