WORCESTER residents are being urged to attend the Ledbury Carnival to make up for their disappointment at this weekend's cancellation.

Worcester Carnival was cancelled just four days before it was due to take place due to "operational circumstances."

The chairman of the Ledbury Carnival Association, Hilary Jones, is hoping that Worcester residents will come to Ledbury for bank holiday Monday instead.

Ms Jones said: "It is such a shame that the Worcester Carnival has had to be cancelled.

"It is very difficult to organise a carnival without a committed and well organised committee and there is a lot of legislation to follow.

"Hopefully people from Worcester can bring anything that they have already made in preparation for their carnival to Ledbury.

"There will be a chance to join the procession if people want, or just to come along and have a good day.

"We do attract people from all over the local area including Worcester and it would be lovely to see as many people as possible to have a good fun day.

"This year's theme is heroes and villains so I suspect we will probably see a few James Bond's."

The Ledbury Carnival typically attracts more than 10,000 visitors, with a number of different attractions on show.

A number of stalls for businesses will be provided, as well as funfair rides to entertain the children.

Charity partners including Acorns Children’s Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Hereford Hospital Radio will be in attendance.

A flower show will take place at Ledbury Community Hall from noon and entertainers including Paper Wizard, Looby Lou and Joey the Juggler will liven up the day.

A number of shows will take place at St Katherine's Car Park, whilst the High Street stage arena will feature live bands, managed by Hereford Hospital Radio.
