JOB clubs in Worcestershire have been praised for their efforts getting people back to work.

Job clubs are a 'community led' initiative, which provide a weekly support service to help unemployed people get back into work.

This service was relaunched at the end of March 2016, but five of Worcestershire's libraries have offered a Job Club since 2009.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for localism and communities said: "Getting back into employment can be a daunting task, and many people who find themselves out of work often don't know where to begin.

"There is no single solution, each individual requires support to fit their own needs. Job Clubs give people the individual skills, support and guidance they need to get back into work."

Since 2009, staff and volunteers have helped hundreds of job seekers progress into suitable work.

Bev Orlowsky, Droitwich library manager said: "I am very proud that we are providing an excellent service which helps others in the community find work to change their lives."

There are now 13 Job Clubs in libraries across the county and they bring together digital and peer support providing information services that support adults to find work.

Support options include drop-in sessions helping with job searches, CV and covering letter writing classes as well as technical advice and help preparing for interviews.

The clubs are all community led by individuals from local communities so support is directed towards any aspect of job search that an individual needs.

Job clubs provide a place to meet and exchange skills & knowledge, make friendly and useful contacts, share experiences, receive support and encourage each other to work through their job search.

Unemployment figures released on Wednesday highlighted that the the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Worcester had decreased by over half in the last five years.
