KEMPSEY Primary School becomes the first school in Worcestershire to achieve a silver badge in a national accreditation scheme.

Modeshift STARS (Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools) recognises schools that excel in travel sustainability.

The school succeeded at reducing its car travels by 3.2 per cent between June 2015 and June 2016, while an increase in walking and cycling went up by 3 per cent and 0.5 per cent respectively.

Bryony Baines, headteacher at Kempsey Primary, said: "Working towards our Silver Badge has made us all so much more conscious of the need to care for our environment and to take active steps to do our bit to help.

"It is also interesting how much more invigorated and productive we all are on Wednesdays after our morning walk."

The award builds on their bronze achievement last year.

Nunnery Wood Primary in Worcester, Astwood Bank First School, in Redditch and Millfields First School in Bromsgrove all achieved Bronze in the latest round of accreditation.
