THERE are just a few days to go until Macmillan Cancer Support's flagship fundraiser, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, that takes place throughout Worcestershire this Friday, (September 30).

The charity hopes residents will show their support for the event, reminding them that every slice of cake eaten and cup of coffee poured has the power to help change lives for people living with cancer.

Some successful fundraisers have already been held. On Friday, (September 23), Ombersley Road Methodist Church held its annual event.

The first coffee morning was held at the church in 1994, and raised £36. Over time the event's popularity has grown.

As well as refreshments the fundraiser now features a variety of stalls including books, bric-a-brac, and games, with all the money raised going to the charity.

This year's event impressively raised around £950.

Organiser Dot Johnson said: "I recently called Macmillan for a pack and the man said 'do you know you've raised £11,118 over the years?'.

"I was shocked, I called everyone to tell them.

"The event is more than just a coffee morning.

"It is a good social gathering - visitors see people they haven't seen for a while.

"It's also more than that, many people share their experiences of cancer.

"We just want to raise as much money as possible each year."

There are number of coffee mornings being held for the annual fundraiser in the region:

• Perry Manor care home, in Charles Hastings Way, will be hosting a coffee morning on September 30, between 2pm and 4pm.

The event is being held on Thursday, September 29, between 10am and noon.
