A ‘SHOCKED’ resident was awoken by his sister's screams to find his car on fire yesterday morning.

Kezz Furber's car was a write-off after the suspected arson, which left one other car damaged.

The blaze engulfed the two cars, which were parked in a St John's street, causing an estimated £7,000 of damage.

Mr Furber, who lives in Nelson Road, said: “My sister woke me up screaming. She was staying here for the weekend, she saw the car in flames.

“Just before she was aware that the car was on fire she heard someone say ‘I can’t believe you have just done that’.

“I have had the car for five years, I was hoping to have it for another five. I’m absolutely shocked.

“I was concerned that the petrol tank would explode as it’s a narrow street here.”

Mr Furber’s neighbour bought another car yesterday to replace her vehicle, which had been damaged in the blaze.

“She must have spent four or five thousand pounds on it. She needed it for work and bought it at 11am. I have had to look at new cars myself," he said.

“The rear of the other car has melted and my car is completely written off. The whole of the front has melted.

“I think they set fire to the tyres and that caught the engine. Someone said they heard the wheel explode."

Other neighbours in the street heard a commotion going on at 2.15am and saw couple of lads going down Henwick Road, Mr Furber said.

Mr Furber, 59, said his neighbour’s Vauxhall may be repairable but his Peugeot 308 is not.

The resident, who is now retired but previously worked as a risk consultant, said the fire brigade arrived 10 minutes after he called them.

A fire service spokesman said they received the report at 2.18am and the fire had been put out by 2.42am.

The spokesman said one of the cars was well alight when the firefighters arrived.

One fire engine from Worcester was dispatched to the scene, with firefighters using breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet.

A police spokesman said they received reports of an arson at 2.49am on Sunday, September 25.

The spokesman said the car appeared to have been set alight between 2.10am and 2.20am.

The police are conducting investigations after 'extensive damage' was caused to the car.

Any witnesses can call 101 and quote the incident number 94S of September 25.
