A TALENTED Worcester student has received a bursary for his studies at the University of Cambridge.

Michael Samuelson-Beulah, who went to the King's School Worcester, was awarded the £3,000 per year bursary by UK exam board OCR.

Michael will be studying medicine at St John’s College and was described as part of an exceptional group of young people.

Joshua Hand, house tutor at King’s, said: “Michael’s mature approach to studying combines extremely well with his outstanding work ethic and genuine thirst for learning.

"He has a true passion to study medicine at the highest level and has sought out varied and numerous work experience opportunities.

"I truly believe Michael will be an outstanding undergraduate and will go on to succeed to the highest level in medicine.”

Michael said: "I am absolutely thrilled and sincerely grateful to be a recipient of the OCR Bursary this year.

"I can now fully focus on taking advantage of all the academic opportunities a Cambridge education has to offer, without the stress of money problems.

"My thanks goes to all those who make this bursary available to students such as myself."

The ten students selected will receive £3,000 per year to use for living or tuition costs or both.

Simon Lebus, Chair of OCR and chief executive of its parent organisation Cambridge Assessment, said: "They have also shown themselves to be outstanding people, volunteering in Africa, charity fundraising and mentoring younger students.

"Many of them are the first in their families to go to university and I hope the OCR bursary will go towards helping any financial pressures that could get in the way of them making the most of their study and lives at Cambridge."
