A PRIMARY school will close early today for the memorial service of a well-loved school governor.

Norton-juxta-Kempsey CE First school will shut at 2pm for staff and pupils to mourn Kate Lovegrove.

As we reported yesterday Mrs Lovegrove lost her battle with cancer earlier this month, aged just 43.

She was a popular member of the lettings team of Allan Morris and had been governor at the Littleworth school since 2005.

Headteacher Julia Dean said: “Many, many children over the years loved Mrs Lovegrove. Kate had a way of connecting with even the quietest child and she always took the time to look at their pictures, wipe their noses or praise their efforts.

“The staff, all of the staff loved her too. We looked forward to her visits to school.

“Kate would always have a hug and a smile or a joke to brighten up our day. Kate was an amazing and talented person and a valued member of our school family. “She was a dear friend and we will miss her.”

Andrew Longdon, the school’s chair of governors, wrote to parents: “Whether it was being interviewed by school inspectors, passing on her musical talents to the children, face painting at the summer fetes or just being around to help both children and adults simply feel better, Kate somehow managed to always be there when needed whilst balancing a busy career, social and family life.

“As a governor and volunteer the school will miss her greatly, whilst as a dear friend, we will miss her more; she leaves a massive void in our lives and hole in our hearts, but we take some comfort in the many happy memories she has left behind for us to cherish.”

Dozens of tributes to Mrs Lovegrove have been posted on our Facebook page.
