A RETIRED retired orthopaedic consultant is set to play jazz at a Worcester pub.

He's in the line up for Severn Jazz this month.

A spokesman said: "Art Themen, who has played saxophone since he was a teenager, studied orthopaedic medicine at Cambridge and during his working life has also played jazz as well as being a doctor. His influences are across the range – from Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane with many stops in between."

Also taking a bow will be Zoltan Sagi, who was director of music education in Warwickshire for a number of years, and he will be playing clarinet and saxophones. The spokesman added: "He attended the Guildhall School of Music and he has also played jazz throughout his career and is well known to local audiences. His musical styles have included a range - everything from trad to mainstream."

Bill Coleman will be the bass player and Al Gurr is the keyboard player.

Organiser Pat Holly said “We are very fortunate to be able to get such talent all together. Both Art and Zoltan have proved themselves to discerning audiences over the years and that applies also to Bill Coleman and Al Gurr. It’s a great team for an equally great night of jazz”

They will all be playing at Severn Jazz on Friday, October 7.

Th doors will open at 7pm and jazz will begin at 8am until 10.30pm.
