KIND offers of help have come rolling in after a woman whose health is quickly deteriorating made an emotional plea for a living kidney donor.

Now Claire Tilley, of Lansdowne Road, Worcester, has a tentative wait to find out whether anyone will be put forward for testing to become an altruistic organ donor.

The 48-year-old's right kidney is now only functioning at nine per cent after she was born with the genetic condition Pyelonephritis.

After her appeal on the front page of the Worcester News, about 20 people said they would be willing to donate a kidney, but the hospital will not reveal to Ms Tilley how many of these have called to register their interest.

"I don't know how many of those people called, the hospital doesn't give out that kind of information but two or three people said they had," she said.

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully in the next few weeks I will hear back from the donor team."

Ms Tilley's health is deteriorating and she has now undergone major surgery to insert a tube into her stomach to prepare her for kidney dialysis.

She is hoping to find another selfless hero like Wes Joyce who donated a kidney to Sally-Anne Grainger following an appeal in the Worcester News two years ago.

"I'd like to thank the amount of people who came forward after the appeal was in the paper," Ms Tilley said.

"Even if they've now quietly backed out I don't blame them, it's a hard thing to go through.

"To those who have contacted the donor team - I'd just like to say a huge thank you."

The mother-of-three also urged people to sign up to the donor register and let their family know of their wishes.

"It's a massive issue. I don't think enough people are aware of the donor system or have thought about being a donor.

"When they're gone their body can continue to save lives."

Dr Martin Ferring, Ms Tilley’s renal consultant at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said “Kidney donation is a gift of life and a major act of charity that would help a kidney patient live longer and better.

“Thus, anybody who is in good health and considered the option of donating would be appreciated with gratitude.”
