AN AMBITIOUS fundraiser will travel more than 6,000 miles from her Droitwich home to take on a gruelling challenge for a charity which helped her father.

Jill Knight, 55, will fly to Tanzania, in Africa, this week to begin a 350km bike ride from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Ngorongoro Crater Reserve, close to the Kenyan border.

She has already raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which cared for her late father who battled lung cancer.

The adventurous cyclist is aiming to finish the challenge within five days, and will be accompanied by a group of friends from home.

"I'm just excited, not nervous," she said. "It is going to be a well worth challenge for a well worth cause - that is what is pushing me as well, because I have had a lot of support from friends, family and work colleagues.

"I'm just crazy, I like a challenge."

She will set off from Heathrow Airport on Saturday, and will have finished the challenge by the following Friday, October 21.

The group will follow a route through two National Parks, including a number of steep inclines, and will camp two nights of the trip.

Once they have completed the challenge they will reward their efforts with a safari trip before returning home.
