A MANAGER of a Worcester shop was left shaken after being threatened with a knife by a shoplifter.

West Mercia Police were called to the incident at the Spar shop, in Cranham Drive, at 5pm on Saturday evening.

After staff confronted the man for attempting to steal food, he brought out the knife and threatened the worker.

The Worcester News has been told the employee was not hurt in the incident, but she was left shaken.

The man escaped the scene and a reader described a large police presence in the area.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said officers were notified of the theft just after 5pm, and went to the scene.

After making inquiries a 31-year-old, from Worcester, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Worcester News readers posted their reaction on social media to the incident.

Deb Ratcliff said police arrived quickly and the area was swarming with them, while Darren Smith said he saw seven police vehicles looking for the man after he fled the shop.

Lorna Taban, Laurie-Anne Northcott and Lee Potter all posted their support for the shop manager, saying they hoped she was fine.
