A TAEKWONDO group with a branch in Worcester has helped to break a Guinness World Record.

Earlier this year, Hall Family Taekwondo were invited to join a group based in Coventry to make the world's largest taekwondo display.

As part of the display, they have so far raised over £100 for The Rainbow Trust with more donations to follow.

Luke Hall, the highest grade instructor said: "The record was broken in Coventry in 2013 but was then beaten in India last year.

"They decided they wanted to reclaim the record and so they asked if wanted to to do it.

"It was really good to see the groups come together like this from all over the UK."

The taekwondo club sent 24 students, including 10 from their Hallow branch to help the effort which saw over 800 people involved, beating the previous record of just over 500 people.

After months of preparation, the event finally took place on Sunday October 16.

The record attempt involved every participant moving in time to a set routine, for a specified amount of time. Anyone not meting the criteria would be disqualified from the final count.

Mr Hall had the honour of being invited on stage to be a lead in performing the routine along with other respected masters of the art.

He added: "It was fantastic to be chosen as one of the VIP people on the stage. I really enjoyed being one of the leads of the routine."

The event almost had to be postponed after 200 students were stuck in traffic unable to get to the event on time, resulting in numbers below that required to break the current record.

Community spirit prevailed when parents and grandparents of the students and members of the general public also stepped in to save the day.
