A WORCESTER area has been revamped by a charity project.

Building Block at Worcester Community Trust, a member of Onside’s Swap & Share scheme, had the entrance to their workshop made more attractive for visitors.

The Timebank scheme sees sees people doing chores in exchange for someone doing an activity they need completed.

The mayor and mayoress of Worcester were in attendance to see the work being done.

“I am delighted to support this fantastic example of partnership working between local businesses, voluntary and community organisations and local people,” said Councillor Paul Denham, mayor of Worcester.

“It shows just what can be achieved if everyone gives a little of what they can - whether that’s time, skill or plants!”

Volunteers spent the day pruning back the hedge row and trees, sprucing up the existing planters, planting donated plants, organising the building materials and generally tidying up.

Several employees of Lloyds Worcester commercial banking team took part in the spruce up, as part of Give and Gain Day, a global day of employee volunteering.

Andrew Cole of Lloyds Worcester commercial banking team said: “Its been a great day. “We can really see the difference our efforts have made.

"I really hope the children at the centre will enjoy the new view and space to play.”

The makeover is to give children a better view, as well as a safe space to ride their scooters.

The Ground Force day was organised by Sue Stanley, Swap and Share Timebank co-ordinator.

She said: “Huge thanks are due to Webbs of Wychbold, Blackpole Homebase, Wickes, Warndon Tesco Community Champion, Worcester City Council Cleaner & Greener Parks Department and Malvern Cube who all donated plants, paint and equipment to help brighten up the space. We couldn’t have done it without their support."

Following funding from the Police and Crime Commissioners fund, Onside set up the project based on the international Timebank model.

For every hour spent helping someone, people are entitled to an hour’s help in return.
