HEREFORDSHIRE crews flocked to the Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages as Broadwell’s Jack Walby became only the fifth local co-driver to win the rally in its 41-year history.

Walby teamed up with Irish star Josh Moffett and they were the youngest duo to take a Wyedean victory.

A top quality entry of 118 crews left Vantage Point Business Village in Mitcheldean on Saturday morning in rain, mist and fog which made conditions tough for the six stages ahead.

The superb pair of Walby and Moffett triumphed by 46 seconds from Callum Black and Elliott Edmondson, while the Ludlow duo Shaun Gardner and Ben Innes finished third.

Herefordshire Motor Club’s Scott Partridge and Mike Jode achieved their best result of the year with 25th overall and fourth in class, despite suffering a puncture on the final stage.

Gary and Tiffany Bollands had a good run to 34th and fifth in class, while the impressive husband and wife team of Nigel and Karen Jenkins took 36th and third in class.

Hereford’s Rob Hansford and Lewis Mason finished 82nd and 14th in class, while Dan Evans and Rich Mason were 85th and second in class.

Nick Elliott took top historic honours with a superb fourth overall, Elliott and young Ben Llewellin were fifth and the expected charge from Ross Stevie Bennett and Cliffy Simmons ended on stage two when Bennett slid off the road.

Cinderford duo Mark Griffiths and Matt Rogers had an excellent run to ninth and first in class, also picking up the prestigious Rex Paddock award for best prepared car.

Bob Morgan and Adie Williams were 15th overall and second in class with Morgan taking the family bragging rights, finishing 32 seconds ahead of his son Jason and co-driver Jack Bowen, from Leominster, who were 17th and third in class.
