CAKE makers have handed over 33 iced Christmas cakes to St Richard's Hospice.

The ladies from the Wychavon branch of Sugarcraft Guild, which meets in Droitwich, gave the cakes to the charity on Monday, November 14.

St Richard's Hospice, which is based in Worcester, will either sell, auction or raffle the cakes to help fund the care they provide to 2,500 patients.

Jayne Sargeant, St Richard’s community fundraiser, said: “These cakes are lovingly crafted, each one is unique and truly beautiful.

"They almost look too good to eat! We are so grateful to the ladies for donating their time and energy in this way.

"They raised in excess of £2,000 for St Richard’s Hospice last year through local companies, clubs and schools kindly raffling them off in December."

Ann Newton, of Sugarcraft Guild, said: “We really enjoyed creating these cakes for the hospice.

"Our ladies have come up with a wide variety of designs to suit all tastes.

"It’s an annual labour of love and we are delighted to see them generating money for a wonderful cause.”

The hospice provides free specialist care relieving pain and in some cases helping people in their last few days of life.

The charity has a day hospice, a 17 bed inpatient unit and home visitors.

The Wychavon branch of Sugarcraft Guild makes cakes for St Ricard's Hospice annually.

The Sugarcraft Guild was formed in 1981 and comprises of amateur cake makers dedicated to the art of sugarcraft.
