A LOCAL choir will perform a winter performance featuring a diverse range of music.

Vocal High, a choir attracting singers from around Pershore and Worcester has so far performed five times this year and are led by vocal coach Paula Evans and pianist-composer Chris Long.

The choir sings a diverse repertoire ranging from music by David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and The Who, to music by folk-rockers Fairport Convention, via sea shanties, medieval music and lively African songs.

Paula Evans, director of music for the Rivers Academy (Worcester) highlighted the key focus of the group: "Singing with others is such a natural and positive thing to do.

"There are lots of choirs and singing groups locally that all serve different functions, from choirs that audition, to community groups that just sing for pleasure.

"Vocal High doesn’t audition but all singers receive guidance on technique, tone and blend, and the repertoire offers a different experience to that of other choirs."

‘Vocal High’ formed in April this year and have performed two different shows at the Three Counties Showground, a performance at the Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre last weekend, and onstage alongside over 800 singers at 'Riversfest' at Croome Court in July.

Chris Long - keyboard player, arranger and composer, added: ‘It’s been great to see people grow in confidence and find that, often contrary to their expectations, they can take part successfully in a 3- or 4-part harmony arrangement and learn quickly while having fun."

The concert 'On A Winter's Night...' takes place at 8pm in Pershore on Friday December 9 at St Andrews Church, and tickets are £5.

Vocal High rehearse their Pershore group on Tuesday nights at the Working Men's Club, and their Worcester group on Wednesday nights in St. John's.
