YOUNGSTERS from Kempsey Primary School have been visiting a building site to learn about construction and health and safety.

The 60 pupils from the Ellsdon-based school visited the Kempsey Mead development at the end of November, and went on a tour of the site and Linden Homes' show home.

The pupils were shown safety clothing, looked at the plumbing and electrical equipment, and even had the chance to try out bricklaying.

Andrew Hands, a school teacher, said: "The children had an exciting afternoon exploring the site.

"Being able to touch the different type of bricks and insulation made much more of an impact on them than what they would’ve been told in the classroom - it’s been a wonderful experience for them."

Sue Scholfield, sales and marketing director from Linden Homes, said: “We were delighted to welcome the pupils to Kempsey Mead, they were so enthusiastic and we were asked some fantastic questions.

“We’re running a competition for them to design a safety poster, which will be displayed on site, and we’re looking forward to seeing all the entries."
