A TASTY tradition dating back more than half a century is being continued at a Worcestershire school.

To mark the festive season, a pupil from Abberley Hall School, in Great Witley, will proudly carry a Christmas pudding into the school's dining room.

This year, nine-year-old Wallace K will don a chef’s hat and apron for the school's 53rd Christmas pudding ceremony.

Victoria Beswick, head of marketing at the school, said: "Our former headmaster Ronnie Yates introduced this fun ceremony back in 1961 when he asked the youngest child in our prep department to dress in a chef’s outfit and bring in the pudding to the annual Christmas feast.

"It became a much-loved tradition which is now continued at the school every year. It is a special touch which rounds off the meal and the autumn term well and all the children and staff really enjoy seeing the pudding arrive in style."

There are many other festive celebrations taking place at the school, including nativity productions and an ‘evening of light’ featuring lanterns and entertainment for families.

And two traditional carol services will be held in the baroque village church, featuring performances from the school's chapel choir.
