A SUPERMARKET is serving up groceries to support a local foodbank during the busy winter period.

The Co-op is providing groceries for the Pershore Foodbank which has increased referrals and growing demand for its services over the Christmas period.

The Co-op is donating a £2,000 shopping basket of groceries including tinned fruit; vegetables; desserts and custard along with tea, coffee, jam, Christmas treats and, toiletries.

Rev. Claire Lording, chairman of the steering group committee for Pershore Food Bank, said: “Winter can be a difficult time for the more vulnerable in our community and we are delighted with the support from the Co-op and its members and customers.

"It is only with the help of the community that we’re able to continue our work.

"We would love for there not to be a need for the foodbank, but whilst there remains people facing crisis and in need in our area we will continue to offer emergency support.”

Kevin Pritchard, store manager for the Co-op in Racecourse Road, Pershore helped to organise the donations along with store fundraising co-ordinator, Julie Davis.

Mr Pritchard said: “As a community retailer we are pleased to support the foodbank and its work to make a difference to the lives of people locally who are in difficulty.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to our members, customers and colleagues whose generous donations and support will make a big difference to people in need in our community this winter.”
